Part of the school work I am doing now is a teaching practicum. Jen and I have to work through four books, which have six sessions each in them, from now until June. What's really neat about all of this is that there really isn't a curriculum. We work through each session and base and focus on an issue that it discusses. We then prepare to have Socratic type discussion over the issue. It's challenging to get the kids to warm up and talk but I have found it to be very pleasant and enjoyable.
The one this week is on Lifestyle Philosophies. It has to do with now being free in Christ we have to make sure that we live freely while not judging others or causing them to stumble. The issue at hand has to do with thinking maturely about one's lifestyle as a Christian. At the end of the session, there is an application. We have to try and create some form of application based upon what we have talked about. I have already started working on mine. I have created an outline of my "lifestyle philosophy". That is what I am going to share next!
It really is just a set of principles I am trying to live my life by.
- Whatever you do, do it as if you were doing it for God
- Work as if God is your boss
- Study as if the Lord is your teacher
- Talk as if Christ was in your group of friends
- Listen to music that is an expression of God's creativity
- Watch t.v./movies that you could see God watching
- Build your faith as if your life depended on it
- Study the character of God in His Word
- Know the Good News of Christ
- Pray to God for Wisdom
- Commit to group fellowship/worship/study
- Be Healthy
- Spiritually
- Emotionally
- Physically
- Have regular check-ups
- Love my neighbor (everyone I come in contact with) as myself *
- Help when they need it, even if it is a sacrifice
- Pray for them, often
- Spend time getting to know them better
- Share the Good News of Christ with them
I think it's at least a start. I can use it as a way to keep myself in check so that I am living a free/balanced life in Christ with out judging others or causing them to stumble.
